The season for 2012 was one of the coldest in history for New Zealand in particular Marlbrough with later harvest dates across the country this cooler season produced more aromatic wines with less color in the reds and a lighter palate weight while retaining natural acidity, the later harvest dates put pressure on viticulture management procedures put in place for Botrytis cinera as many vineyards faced mouldy patches at the end of the long growing season.
