Red Leaf Winery 2011 Syrah
This truly one of a kind New Zealand Syrah was traditionally hand crafted from dry farmed old and young vine Syrah blocks, a grape also known in warmer climates as Shriaz, the resulting wine exhibits a bouquet of rich ripe aromas of Cranberries, liquorice, plums, chocolate, cocoa and dark cherries, a good wine will smell of fruits but a great wine will smell of everything, it flows onto the palate with a rich fruity smooth heavily weighted palate and mouth-feel that has a silky texture and long lasting finish with lingering fruit of the forest floor flavours and perfect power balanced with grace attributed to the 100% new very tight grain French oak Barrique intergration from the wine being aged in 100% new French oak barriques.

RED LEAF WINERY CANTERBURY SYRAH 2011, $350
This is the debut Syrah sourced from Scott Grant from 20-year-old Canterbury vineyard - and its darn good. Inky magenta-black in the glass and crammed full of blackberry and pepper soaked in pomegranate and cocoa. Really fresh, interesting and a great southern example.
This wine made by winegrower Scott Grant from twenty year old Syrah vines and young teenage Syrah vines grown on sandy gravels, was cold soaked for one week, indigenously fermented with Canterbury yeast well iknown for its production of bacon fat on the back palate and a high glycerol production contributing to a heavily weighted smooth palate and aged in French oak barriques for 12 months. This wine will generously reward cellaring forever.
